About the project

This is the website for the podcast for Culture and Real Estate project, which takes place in connection with the Junction Arts Festival, Sept.9 and 10, 2006.

The project is meant to stimulate discussion around the relationship between culture and real estate. It's easy to think of this relationship: the artists move in and then the loft condos follow, as in the popular phrase "artists are the shock troops of gentrification". But how can we also think about culture in relation to affordable housing? Why is this harder to think of? Of course we all want to live in a vibrant neighbourhood, where people from a variety of cultures and class backgrounds can live together. But how to achieve this?

During the festival, I will be interviewing people about these issues. The interviews will be compiled and posted online as a podcast.
